Privacy Policy

This policy explains what OffGrid Messenger does with your information. The short version: the app has no servers and no accounts, so there is nothing for us to collect, and we don’t.

Last updated: 1 August 2026 · Applies to OffGrid Messenger for iPhone and iPad

Who we are

OffGrid Messenger is developed by Prisma Divergente, Lda. (“we”, “us”). You can reach us through our contact page with any privacy question or request.

What we collect

Nothing. OffGrid Messenger has no backend service. We operate no servers that receive your data, we do not have accounts, and we do not use any analytics, tracking, advertising or crash-reporting SDK. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal information about you.

What stays on your device

The app creates and stores the following locally on your device. None of it is transmitted to us, because there is nowhere for it to be transmitted to.

DataWhy it existsWhere it lives
Your cryptographic identity keys Prove your device’s identity to contacts you have verified, and protect the group keys exchanged with them Generated on your device; private keys stored in the iOS Keychain
Display name you choose Shown to contacts you have verified On device; shared only with devices you connect to
Verified contacts Remember who you have verified so you don’t re-verify each time On device only
Messages and photos Your conversation history On device only, in the app’s protected storage
Trial start time and purchase status Determine whether sending is unlocked On device (Keychain / app storage)

Deleting the app deletes all of it, including your identity key, contacts and message history. We cannot recover any of it for you.

How your messages travel

Messages and photos are sent directly from your device to the recipient’s device over a local Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi link, using Apple’s device-to-device networking — the same class of technology behind AirDrop. That link is encrypted between the two devices. Messages sent in a group chat are additionally encrypted by the app itself, using a group key held only by the members of that group and never sent in the clear.

They do not pass through our infrastructure, because we have none. They are not uploaded to any cloud service by the app. The people you have verified and chosen to message can, of course, read what you send them and may keep it on their own device.

Device permissions

  • Bluetooth and Local Network — used solely to discover nearby devices running OffGrid Messenger and to carry your messages between them. Nearby advertising is kept minimal and does not include your chat names, contact list or group membership.
  • Camera — used solely to scan a contact’s verification QR code. Scanning happens entirely on device; no photo or camera image is stored or transmitted by this flow.
  • Photo library — used only when you choose a photo to send, and only for the photo you pick.
  • Location — not requested and not used. The app does not know where you are.

Purchases

The one-time unlock is sold through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Apple processes the payment and tells the app whether the purchase exists. We never see your payment details, and no purchase information is sent to us. Apple’s handling of that transaction is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

If you leave Apple’s App Store analytics or crash reporting enabled on your device, Apple may collect diagnostic information as described in their own policy. That data goes to Apple, not to us, and is aggregated where Apple provides it to developers.

Children

OffGrid Messenger does not collect personal information from anyone, of any age — there is no account, no analytics and no advertising SDK to collect it in the first place. That means there is no data collected from children for us to protect, consent to, or delete, regardless of who uses the app. The app also has no public chat rooms, no user-generated public content and no third-party advertising of any kind.

Your rights

Data-protection law gives you rights to access, correct, export or delete personal data a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to hand over or erase. All of your data is under your own control on your device, and deleting the app deletes it. You’re welcome to ask us about this at any time.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app gains a feature that involves a service — we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
